NYC’s The Deli Magazine stopped by The Well-Informed’s EP Release show at The Rockshop last week. Beatles comparison, yes please! Check out “Everybody Knows” and the Deli’s thoughts on The Well-Informed here.
Francois Gilot, Oceanic Woman, 1986
Taking in the calm atmosphere of this pastel drawing by Francois Gilot, best know as the lover and muse of Pablo Picasso from 1944 - 1953. An artist in her own right, her paintings and drawings derive from more organic figures than Picasso’s.
The Well-Informed were featured on Yes Yes Ya’ll - take a listen to “Daddy’s Dime” and enjoy the cuban missile make-out pop. Be sure to peruse the site for more great artists!
The result of having 6 cookies and the first iced coffee of the season-stripes on stripes on stripes on leopard. Sugar rush ensemble, a cautionary tale.
Saul Ashby “Debutantes”
Check out Londoner Saul Ashby’s debut single released by Fly 2 Records, the recently resurrected label responsible for being the home of T. Rex in the ’70s. The single will be released on vinyl (YES) this Spring, and Ashby has some tour dates scheduled in the UK as well.
“Debutantes” has echoes of Jamie T, but more so like farther-flung alt icons Elvis Costello and Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins. It’s a reckless manifesto of living in the moment.

Beach House “Myth”
Today feels like the start of Spring, thanks to the not freezing weather and some melancholy sunshine courtsey of Beach House. I’ve been hoping the new material would be great, and this song does not disappoint!

Crocodile Eating Ballerina, 1983 Helmut Newton. From Pina Bausch’s Keushleitslegende
Since seeing the Wim Wenders film Pina: 3D I’ve been scouring the internet for video of Bausch’s pieces, to no avail. I’ve found little information on Keushleitslegende other than it featured the music of two of my favorite composers, Nino Rota and George Gershwin, and a few stills.
Does it hurt Pina’s legacy for these innovative modern dance performances to not be recorded and available online? The Tanztheater Wuppertal continues to perform, but other than the Wim Wender’s trailer and a few of her most famous pieces like Cafe Muller and The Rite of Spring, there isn’t much of an online presence. Here’s hoping (selfishly) for an increase in social media outreach!
